Shawn Hickman, who makes an app I really like called Sofa, has eight developer-specific requests for Apple at WWDC. Some are technical, some are business-focused, some are pure vibes. Hickman is just one dev, obviously, but he covers bunch of frustrations I’ve been hearing for years. It’s a good frame ahead of next week.
Apple Event
Apple is holding a big event on September 9th, 2024, to announce the next iPhone and Apple Watch. Given the event is being held exactly 10 years after the Watch was announced, we can expect some interesting Watch-related news. But most people will be more interested in the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro we expect to see announced. We’ll also likely see an update to the Watch Ultra and Watch SE, as well as updates to the AirPods and AirPods Pro. We might even see a new Mac Mini!

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest prediction follows a previous one from last year that said there’s a slim chance for a new Ultra in 2024. At Apple’s iPhone 16 event, we only got a (much desired) black model of the Ultra 2, while the SE was last refreshed in 2022.

We’ve just published our video about going hands-on with the new iPhone 16 Pro. I always look forward to these, and not just because I work for The Verge; as someone covering the event remotely, it’s nice to see what the new iPhones look like outside of Apple’s glitzy presentations.

We’re here with the latest on Apple Intelligence, iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods.
