Google

The name Google is synonymous with online searches, but over the years the company has grown beyond search and now builds multiple consumer products, including software like Gmail, Chrome, Maps, Android, and hardware like the Pixel smartphones, Google Home, and Chromebooks. Its name can also be found on internet services such as Google Fi, Flights, Checkout, and Google Fiber. Here is all of the latest news about one of the most influential tech companies in the world.

After six months, the UK confirms Google and Apple are both big tech companies.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has proposed giving them “strategic market status” for iOS and Android, since over 90 percent of UK mobile devices run either OS.

It took the CMA since January to figure out what the EU did two years ago, and somehow it’s not done yet — it’ll take until October to confirm the proposal, around the same time it will “begin consulting” on its roadmaps to rein the two in.

The Pixel 10 Pro design has leaked too.

After sharing the first official renders of the Pixel 10 yesterday, today Android Headlines has images of the 10 Pro in a more muted set of colors.

With the 10 boasting a telephoto lens too, the only visible difference between the phones is the Pro-exclusive temperature sensor, the small dot below the flash. That detail gives away that yesterday’s official design reveal by Google is of the Pro too.

The Pixel 10 Pro apparently comes in black, white, gray-blue, and a pale green.

The mass removals included over 7,700 channels with ties to China, and 2,000 linked to Russia, as reported by CNBC.

One of Google’s AI agents flagged a “critical security flaw” in SQLite, an open-source database.

Big Sleep, an AI agent Google introduced last year for searching out security vulnerabilities in both Google products and open-source projects, used information from Google Threat Intelligence to discover the issue before it could be used by threat actors, according to the company.

Rivian’s maps get Google-fied.

The electric automaker is launching its new map built on top of Google Maps using the service’s Automotive SDK. Rivian, which notably does not allow Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in its vehicles, says the new maps feature real-time traffic updates, tappable points of interest, and satellite imagery.

And since it’s embedded software, it can integrate important vehicle information, like how much range will be left on arrival and whether charging stops will be needed. And don’t forget Rivian’s “charging score” so you can tell whether a charging station is up to snuff.

Yup, that sure is a bigger Pixel Watch battery.

When the Pixel Watch 4 design leaked looking thicker than we’re used to, we figured Google was doubling down on battery.

According to a new leak from Android Authority, we were right, though with less than 10 percent extra capacity, “doubling” it is not. The site also says Google is sticking with the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip for the third year running while it develops its own chip for the Pixel Watch 5.

European publishers have beef with Google’s AI Overviews.

A complaint filed by a group of independent publishers alleges that Google abuses its market power by not allowing them to withhold their content from AI Overviews without losing the ability to appear in Search results — a choice that Google believes may impact AI monetization.

The group is calling on the EU Commission to put “interim measures” in place to prevent irreparable harm to competition and news access.
