Before Larian Studios can launch the final patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, the developers need a little audience participation. Starting today, select players on any platform can join the Patch 8 stress test designed to catch all the little bugs before the patch officially goes live.
Xbox Insiders have access to the stress test and Xbox’s website has detailed instructions for how to log in here. PS5 and PC players who have been selected to participate will receive an email with log in instructions. If you’re not an Xbox Insider or you haven’t signed up on PS5 or PC, there’s still time to get access to the stress test by registering here.
Earlier this week, PlayStation players in Europe and Asia mistakenly got access to a live version of Patch 8 for a short period of time causing save and mod compatibility issues. Larian corrected the error and recommended players who received the update uninstall and reinstall the game to revert it back to the proper version.
Cross-platform play is the primary feature for Patch 8. Find the instructions for how to join a lobby or start your own here. Larian recommends that console players host cross-play lobbies but if you’re a PC player with mods, you must have fewer than 100 mods installed and they must be marked as compatible with console and Mac. For Xbox Series S players, Patch 8 will also enable split-screen play that you can try out during the stress test.
Larian has said Patch 8 will be the last major update for Baldur’s Gate 3. In addition to bug fixes and cross-play, the patch will add other little tweaks and features including photo mode and new subclasses for every major class. Larian has not said when the patch will go live, but with the stress test happening now, it’ll likely be very soon.
