The Nintendo Switch 2 is more expensive in practically every way: pricier console, pricier games, an entire Chat button you’ll eventually have to pay to use. So it was nice when Nintendo revealed you won’t need its own $55 camera to video chat with pals.
Nintendo Switch 2: Which webcams work?
We don’t know why some don’t work, but here’s an updated list.
We don’t know why some don’t work, but here’s an updated list.

“You can use the Nintendo Switch 2 camera accessory (sold separately) or any compatible USB-C® camera you’d like,” the company wrote. But you might be mighty disappointed if you buy some of the best-reviewed webcams out there.
Many USB-C webcams we’ve tried don’t work at all, including the ones you’ll typically find on “best webcam” lists around the internet, like the Logitech Brio 4K, the Insta360 Link, and the Elgato Facecam MK.2. Meanwhile, ancient USB-A cameras like my Logitech C920 fire up instantly with no trouble at all. (Why? The mystery has seemingly been solved.)
The good news: As of June 27th, Logitech has confirmed to The Verge that all its webcams work save that Brio 4K, and Elgato will update the firmware on its Facecam MK.2 and Facecam Neo by July. Ugreen will update three of its non-working cameras too, and provided a list of five others that work.
Obsbot has confirmed to The Verge it will update its Tiny 2, Tiny 2 Lite, Meet 2, Tiny SE and Meet SE later this year, and Insta360 is still looking into it. Anker is non-committal. Razer, Microsoft, Dell, DJI, and Opal don’t have lists or update promises for us yet.
But we don’t necessarily need those companies to help: we gamers and journalists can create a list of working webcams ourselves! Here is Reddit’s latest crowdsourced list, and we’ve additionally tested a variety of cams that are — and aren’t — working here at The Verge.
In order to separate “take it with a grain of salt” from “confirmed working,” we’ll start with our own first-hand confirmation. Below that, you’ll find the full Reddit list as of June 18th, 2025.

Shoutouts to u/shutyourbutt69 (yes, I know) for compiling the Reddit master list, and to u/Darkwulf3 who created the earlier Reddit thread.
In our testing, it doesn’t seem to matter if you use the Switch USB-C ports or the USB-A ports on the dock, whether you’re going through a C-to-A adapter, or whether you daisy-chain with a USB hub: the webcams that work, work, and the ones that don’t, don’t.
Overall, it’s starting to look like Nintendo didn’t mean “compatible with USB-C,” but rather “compatible with Switch 2.” So why did it suggest you can use any camera you’d like? Nintendo didn’t answer the question.
To Nintendo’s credit, it is incredibly easy to test which cameras do work with the console. Just go to Systems Settings > Controllers & Accessories > Test USB Camera and working ones will automatically display an image on the screen as soon as you plug them in.
And to Elgato’s credit, it tells The Verge it may try to update its cameras: “For cameras that do not work, we will explore firmware updates to enable compatibility with Switch 2,” reads a statement via spokesperson Justin Ocbina. Obsbot says it will also see if it can update its cameras, but it doesn’t yet know what the difficulty is.
If you know why some webcams don’t work with the Switch 2, let us know! I’m at sean@theverge.com.
