PlayStation

For more than 25 years, Sony’s PlayStation has been synonymous with gaming. It’s given players experiences like God of War, The Last of Us, and Final Fantasy VII alongside technological innovations from CD-ROMs all the way up to 4K, VR, and cloud gaming. There have even been attempts at portable gaming with the PSP and Vita. Across multiple generations the company has been a pioneer, starting with the original PlayStation and continuing with the PS5.

When’s Marvel? Pretty soon.

Sony has announced Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a new Marvel Comics fighting game developed by Guilty Gear studio Arc System Works, will make its debut at EVO 2025. You’ll be able to demo six playable characters - Storm, Ms. Marvel, Doom, Captain America, Iron Man and Star Lord - arranged in teams of four.

Also at EVO 2025, will be a developer panel discussing gameplay and development, if I know anything about EVO, there will likely be an exhibition showcase for the game as well. You can catch all the new info on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls when EVO 2025 starts on August 1st.

I ain’t afraid of no Ghost of Yotei.

Last month during its summer State of Play, Sony said that it would put on a special presentation focused on Ghost of Yotei. Now it’s time. On Thursday July 10th at 5PM ET / 2PM PT on Twitch and YouTube, Playstation will put on a 20-minute deep dive into Sucker Punch Studios’ follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. Expect more info on gameplay, Atsu, her story, and her bloody quest for vengeance.

Don’t expect PS6 before 2027 at the earliest.

While the PS5 Pro may get crisper graphics in 2026, PlayStation architect Mark Cerny says his next console won’t come that quick. “My time-frame is multi-year here,” he told Tom’s Guide. Both Sony’s lawyers and Microsoft’s planners once suggested next-gen consoles would arrive 2028.

Cerny also says he’s helping build AMD’s next-gen GPUs. “Big chunks of RDNA 5, or whatever AMD ends up calling it, are coming out of engineering I am doing on the project,” he said, referring to Project Amethyst.

Senua’s Saga, now enhanced.

The developers at Ninja Theory have been hard at work adding new features to Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and now they’re ready to show it to even more players than before. Seanua’s Saga: Hellblade II Enhanced launches on Xbox, and, as a part of Xbox’s new multiplatform strategy, it’s coming to PS5 too on August 12th.

The enhanced edition will include a performance mode with 60 FPS (not available on the Series S unfortunately.) A new gameplay mode called Dark Rot, an improved photo mode, and developer commentary.

DualSense controllers are getting improved pairing.

Apple, at WWDC: “This year, the frameworks that power input across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro are getting major upgrades, with easier pairing for PlayStation DualSense controllers across all of your devices.”

PlayStation, on X: “Want to pair your DualSense controller to multiple devices at once?
An update planned for later this year enhances pairing functionality.”

Seems useful, whenever this rolls out.

The Bot is back.

I can’t get enough Astro Bot which is a very good thing because PlayStation keeps giving him to us. During today’s summer State of Play, the good folks at Team Asobi announced they are releasing a new slate of Astro Bot levels.

There will be five new levels to challenge and a host of new bots to find including Atsu from Ghosts of Yotei. The developers say there will be even more bots to find but they’re being kept secret for now. The new levels launch July 10th.

Virtual thievery.

The Thief series is coming to VR with a new game called Legacy of Shadow. It looks to be exactly what it sounds like: an attempt to bring the stealth gameplay into a new level of immersion. It’s launching later this year on PSVR 2

F is for freaky.

That’s certainly the vibe I’m getting from the gameplay of Silent Hill F, which looks even creepier than the recent remake of Silent Hill 2. It’s launching on September 25th.

Digimon returns with another story in October.

It’s been years since we saw an entry in Digimon’s Story series, and now it’s returning with Digimon Story Time Stranger on October 3rd, 2025. The game’s description says it tells an “epic story that unravels the mystery of the world’s collapse” as you carry out turn-based battles with a variety of Digimon collected throughout the game.

The dad games will continue until morale improves.

PlayStation’s summer State of Play is going on right now and Capcom showed us a bit more of Pragmata, a game that looks like the developers crossed one of the Great America Dad Games like Bioshock Infinite or God of War with the slick hyper-realistic visuals of Stellar Blade. Not much of the gameplay was shown but we were given a 2026 launch window and introduced to our Elizabeth/Atreus analogue, an adorable little robot child named Diana.

Romeo must die.

At least I assume that’s what will happen in this ultra-violent action game Romeo is a Deadman. It looks wild and confusing, but what else would you expect from Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture. It launches in 2026.
